Boneshaker Project – Austin Kids Biking Team

Our Mission is to give kids the chance to get outside, be strong from an early age,
live healthy lifestyles and encourage others to do the same.
To that end, we are taking our 15 months of cycling and fitness coaching and mentoring for kids in the Austin area to the next level, with the creation of the Boneshaker Kids Cycling Team.  This team will be lead by Will Ross, Boneshaker Project’s fearless programs coach.  His proven leadership, ability, respect and trust with our organization’s board of directors, the kids and families we serve in our programs, and our community partners, makes him clearly capable of undertaking this new Austin-wide initiative.
Here are the basics of the program:
This will be an all Austin-area Kids (age 10-15) Cycling Team.  Entry will be based on interest, not skill, although skills will obviously improve.  The focus will be on building confidence and skill on the bike, learning rules of racing, and building a positive, supportive team learning environment in cycling’s locally accessible disciplines of (Summer) mountain/off-road, (Fall) cyclocross and (Spring) road.
The team will be building up to a race in the late summer in the discipline of USA Cycling jr. mtn bike racing and a USA Cycling jr. cyclocross race in the fall.  Race entry (if any) will be paid by Boneshaker Project with dues.   USA Cycling license one-day or annual required, and some scholarship may be available.  Additionally, our team will host a top-rated national cyclocross champion (yet to be revealed) to lead a very memorable kids clinic in August.
