Statesman Capitol 10K partners with local Boneshaker Project for 2017 race

The Statesman Capitol 10,000, presented by Baylor Scott & White Health, has announced a partnership with Boneshaker Project for the 40th annual race on April 23, 2017.
In 2016, Boneshaker Project launched a new fitness initiative to bring inclusive, fun and social run clubs to schools. With a focus on middle school, Boneshaker Project is in 10 schools in Austin and Round Rock ISDs. The program includes the opportunity to participate in a 5K and 10K in the fall and spring semesters.
“Each year, new runners and walkers experience the Cap10K for the first time,” said Jeff Simecek, Statesman Cap10K race director. “We’re so pleased that this partnership means many of the 150 program children expected to participate will experience their first 10K with us — and the 40th at that!”
“6.2 miles will be the farthest most of our students will have ever run,” said Cassandra Henkiel, Boneshaker Athletic Director. “We can’t imagine a better race to introduce our Boneshakers to the joys of running than the Statesman Cap10K.”
The Cap10K is the largest 10K race in Texas and one of the top 10 in the nation. The iconic Austin race began and will be celebrating the 40th running in 2017. In 2016, the race had more than 20,500 registered participants. Additional race information is available at cap10K.com.
